Jewish Family Service takes pride in treating our clients and each other with respect and dignity. Protecting your personal information is as important to us as it is to you. We want you to have a clear understanding of how we use and safeguard your protected health information, and how you can get access to that information.
A federal law known as HIPAA requires that we take additional steps to keep you informed about how we may use information that is gathered in order to provide health care services to you. As part of this process, we are required to provide you with the following Notice of Privacy Practices and to request that you sign the attached written acknowledgement that you received a copy of the Notice. The Notice describes how we may use and disclose your protected health information to carry out treatment, payment or health care operations and for other purposes that are permitted or required by law. This Notice also describes your rights regarding health information we maintain about you and a brief description of how you may exercise these rights.
If you have any questions about this Notice, please contact your therapist or care manager or the JFS Privacy Officer at Jewish Family Service, 1601-16th Avenue, Seattle, Washington 98122.

It is a top priority for Jewish Family Service to carefully protect any information that contains Protected Health Information (PHI), under the federal law known as HIPAA. In order to maintain private and confidential information sent via email, while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations, we use an email encryption service provided by Microsoft Office 365. This service helps us protect outbound email containing personal information, such as social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and medical information.
Emails containing sensitive information between JFS and you will be encrypted. When an email with such information has been sent to you by JFS, you will receive a JFS branded notification message from Microsoft with instructions to open an attachment in order to access the encrypted email.
Each time you get an encrypted message you will need to open the attachment and request a one-time passcode. Once you receive the email with the one-time passcode, you will use that to log in and view the message and any attachments over a secure connection.
Depending on which JFS provider you see, email may or may not be an option for you. Please discuss this with your provider.
